Collection & Transport System
The wastewater collection and transport system for the City of Collegedale is maintained and operated by the Public Works Department. The system is comprised of 23 miles (119,773 LF) of gravity sewers ranging in size from 8-inch to 18-inch in diameter and approximately 550 manholes and three pump stations.

The majority of the collection system was designed and installed between 1981 and 2007, with additional commercial, institutional, and residential developments added over the last 10 years. Collegedale serves a total of 995 customer accounts, representing numerous residential, industrial, institutional, and commercial facilities and a total city population of over 7,000 people. The service area is approximately 6,259 acres.

The collection system area flows into the collection system owned and operated by the City of Chattanooga’s Waste Resources Division’s Interceptor Sewer System (ISS) at the Collegedale Pump Station, where it is treated at the Moccasin Bend WWTP before being discharged into the Tennessee River. The collection system is operated under TDEC Permit No. SOP-89136, issued on September 1, 2015, with an expiration date of August 31, 2020.
